PERSONALITY:
Benjamin is not a particularly loud person. He’s a laid-back and collected guy, the kind who is confident enough with himself to not feel like he has to dominate every conversation he gets involved in, and he’s happy to listen to others talking. This doesn’t mean he’s shy or extremely introverted either, however, because he most certainly is not. He just doesn’t feel the need to talk when he doesn’t have anything particular to say. Therefore, making small talk and such is something he considers pointless, and people he can’t have serious conversations with absolutely drive him crazy. Sure, he likes to be light-hearted and cares about a lot of things less significant than the meaning of life, but he needs to know that it is possible to talk about more important things as well. After all, he is a Ravenclaw, so he needs something more intelligent than talking about the weather every so often.
Benjamin is a natural-born strategist, and he likes to have everything planned out before acting. He is rarely the type to just jump into something, and isn’t really a big fan of being surprised. It isn’t exactly a need to be in control of everything, though - it’s more a case of wanting a sense of predictability and stability. Sure, he can deal with other people’s mood swings and having them change their minds, but he honestly prefers knowing beforehand when something might happen to affect his life. Adaptability is not exactly one of his greatest strengths, and if he could have it his way, not a whole lot of things would ever need to change. No, he might not be happy about everything in his life, but he would still have it remain the way it is simply because he’s used to it.
It is perhaps natural, then, that Benjamin gets attached to the people in his life. He is fiercely loyal to those closest to him, and isn’t afraid to stand up to anyone who bothers them. He can’t be described as mindlessly self-sacrificing either, however, because he’s smart enough to know that he needs to look after himself as well. In fact, it might sometimes seem as though he knows this a little bit too well, and he can come off as slightly arrogant at times. He also appears oddly difficult to anger or upset, sometimes even downright cold, but he’s just not very comfortable letting people know how he feels. Underneath it all, though, he’s a friendly, committed guy and a trustworthy friend.

HISTORY:
In some families, the younger siblings have to struggle to live up to the expectations created by the oldest. That was never a problem in Benjamin’s family, however, because their oldest brother was a huge troublemaker. The brother might only have been older by a year, but Benjamin is still unable to recall a time when the boy was not causing havoc. Needless to say, the brothers did not exactly get along. Fortunately, the birth of their younger sister caused no further problems, as Benjamin got along with her quite a bit better. The same applied to the fourth and last sibling, born another two years later, and even though he was never extremely close to her, the two got along.
The oldest brother received his Hogwarts letter the year he turned eleven, and was sorted into Slytherin. Delaney shook her head, having always been quite skeptical to the house, but didn’t mention it. Regardless, the following year was one of the quietest the family had known, but as soon as the summer holiday started, the chaos seemed to return. There really was no hiding that the eldest was a problem. Still, everyone hoped that it was something that would pass with age. Before he got on the Hogwarts Express that autumn, however, Delaney did very gently suggest that Benjamin might not want to spend all his time with his big brother. Well, fair enough. It wasn’t like he wanted to anyway. So, when he was sorted into Ravenclaw, neither one of them really minded.
His first few years at Hogwarts were largely uneventful. His younger sister was also sorted into Ravenclaw, while the youngest was sorted into Hufflepuff. As the years went by, though, they all became more and more distant from their oldest brother, and by the start of Benjamin’s sixth year, the brother had moved in with some friends against their parents’ wishes. There wasn’t really much anyone could do about it, though. Delaney became increasingly skeptical and prejudiced against Slytherins, which made things quite difficult for Benjamin when he started dating one Cassandra Warrington. Because of this, they decided simply keeping it a secret was easier. This has gone quite well for over a year, but recently, having revealed the secret to a close friend, Benjamin is starting to realize that some changes might need to be made.

SAMPLE POST:
Thane wasn’t really a fan of these big formal events, but as the head of Gringotts’ Curse-Breakers, it was expected that he attend. After all, Gringotts was possibly one of the best-known and safest banks in the wizarding world, so it was only natural that the man in charge of curse-breaking and thus responsible much of the bank’s income should be in attendance at an event like this. That being said, there were many things he would rather be doing directly after returning from Egypt than get all dressed up and make pointless small talk with politicians. Yes, Cairo was a beautiful city and he wasn’t about to complain about visiting a place slightly warmer than London, but bloody hell, the curses in some of those pyramids were terrifying.
Complaining out loud would be highly unprofessional, however, so he put on a nice suit and headed off to the Ministry and the blasted ball. One thing that did help, though, was knowing that Selena would be there. After all, she was the Minister’s Senior Undersecretary and even coordinated the thing, so of course she would. Granted, they hadn’t ended their last meeting on an entirely friendly note, but that had been over a week ago. Plus, that was just the way their relationship worked - wonderful one day, terrible the next. He loathed that unpredictability, but not quite enough to actually give up on the relationship. Yes, he was in love with her. Of course he was. How could he not be, even if she did drive him all kinds of crazy?
The first half hour or so passed exactly as he had been expecting it to. He socialized with various foreign politicians and other Ministry workers, had a drink or two and tried to avoid offending a few women who had clearly had more than enough already. He had brief conversations with some friends as well, but the problem with that was that this wasn’t really the kind of night most people spent catching up with old friends. Power, politics, expanding their influence, et cetera. It all interested him, in theory, but this just did not feel like the right setting for it. What was wrong with ordinary offices?
The problem with ordinary offices, he realized as he just happened to turn around, was that Selena Davitch did not dress like that. Then again, that might not really be that much of a problem, since it might just be a little too distracting. Right now, on the other hand, it was the perfect distraction. Smiling faintly, he walked in her direction. ”Good evening, Miss Davitch,” he said, eyebrows arched slightly as he looked at her. ”You look stunning.”
