COME INTO MY WORLD
-------------------- SEE THROUGH MY EYES.
NINE THINGS ABOUT MYSELF
1. Quidditch is a huge part of my life. Yeah…I know what you’re thinking. He’s a Potter…it’s natural. Growing up with a father and grandfather who are both completely engrossed in the sport definitely had an influence on the way I think about it. I, like my dad, was exposed at a very young age. Dad would take me to Wimbourne matches (they’re his favorite team), but Uncle Hugo would take me to see Falmouth and Puddlemere often as well. The fact that Cindy played for Montrose, now coaches, is pretty damn lucky too. Those were some free tickets I’ll never regret. Still, I don’t think people realize just how hard I work for Quidditch. I’m not some all-star Potter prodigy. I just spend my time on the pitch. I train, and I train hard. I got to where I am, chaser and team captain for Gryffindor, by running drills every night, running every day, and loving the sport with all my heart. Sorry if I’m sounding cliché- if you don’t fly, you just won’t get it.
2. My family is absolutely humungous. There’s me, my sister, my two little brothers, and my parents. There’s Aunt Lily and Uncle Lorcan and my two cousins. There’s Uncle Al and Aunt Jamila and my four cousins. There’s Uncle Teddy and Aunt Vic and four more cousins. And that’s only my dad’s side, not counting the Weasley’s! Most people get overwhelmed just trying to comprehend the size of my family; hell, I get overwhelmed sometimes. Still, even though they’re all insane and family gatherings are much too hectic for my taste, I wouldn’t trade ‘em for the world. I love them all, sanity or not.
3. I like to read. No one really pegs me for the bookworm type, and I understand that’s a reasonable conjecture. I’ve found that it’s extremely relaxing. I started to really get into books when I was first at Hogwarts. I’d spend my afternoon on the pitch training, and when I got back to the common room I’d be wide awake. The last thing I wanted to do was homework, so I just picked up one of my books. I finished it by the end of the week, and the rest is history. There’s nothing that can compare to flying, but if I flew all day, every day, I’d really go nutters, wouldn’t I? I’ll read anything from adventure novels to Quidditch magazines to non-fiction on the history of the wizarding world. Reading’s a good escape- its usually the what I do when I’m just hanging out.
4. You might think this is a given, but I don’t think so. Besides Quidditch, I get really into games. I rule at Wizard Chess. I can proudly say I haven’t been defeated inside Hogwarts Castle (damn you, Great Uncle Ron at Christmastime…). It’s not just chess though; Exploding snap, poker, rummy- pretty much anything with cards. Puzzles, mind games, all sorts of other things. Games are one of my favorite ways to pass time, and I’m convinced it’s a great way to get to know people too…
5. No one else reads this, right? Well…ok. I’m not really that great with girls. Before you start lamenting about how I’m nothing like my father, just stop. It’s not that big of a deal……….ok, I guess it is that big of a deal. A seventeen year old who can’t get their act together around a girl long enough to ask her on a date? I’ve had a couple girlfriends- getting to that stage was torture. Whoever thought ‘boy should make the first move’ should try it themselves. Not as easy as it sounds…
6. I like school alright. I don’t have a favorite subject, but there isn’t anything I really loathe about school either. Truthfully? I’m completely ambivalent to homework. It’s not going to disappear, so I’ve just come to terms with the fact that it will always be there and I should do it without complaining. I’m an ok student; I do my work and I try not to complain. It’s worked out for the past six years, why wouldn’t it for my last year?
7. There are a couple things that I really, really don’t like. The big one is chocolate. Just about everyone in the world likes chocolate, while I hate it. I don’t hate you if you like chocolate, but I will if you continually try to get me to eat it. Sorry, it’s just not going to happen! There are a couple other things that irritate me, but not enough to broadcast it: when people bite their nails, the sound of feet scuffing on the floor, chickens (developed after a scuffle in my youth with Great Grandma Molly’s ones), and cats. Ooh…cats…no, no, no. Never.
8. My name has significance! Being a Potter, it’s a given that my name will be from someone else’s. In fact, both my first and middle name come from other people, two perfectly respectful men who should be remembered once their gone. Theodore Lupin, or Uncle Teddy, might be the coolest guy I know. He’s a werewolf, but he doesn’t let that hold him back. He’s survived everything, and he’s completely dedicated to Aunt Vic. Besides being a complete badass, he’s just really fun to be around. James Potter is my father. I don’t think I can accurate describe the way he’s effected my life. He’s been the biggest influence over the way I…turned out. I’m a good kid, right? A Quidditch player, a good student, a nice guy. It’s all because of him. I’m happy that I have his name as my second.
9. I always wanted to be that perfectly romantic guy, you know, the one that sweeps the girls off their feet with ease? I’ve come to terms with the fact that if I tried that, I’d probably drop the poor girl on her head (metaphorically, of course. I’m quite confident in my strength!). Still, even if I’m not the staple romantic, there are a couple things that catch my eye and win my heart. When a girl’s not afraid to be who she is, it’s the biggest turn on in the world. Someone who’s totally confident in their own skin? That’s hot! I believe in old school chivalry, and even though I don’t have my act together, I make an effort to plan dates and surprises and the like. If a girl does that for me once in awhile, it’s great. Guys love surprises too, you know. When a girl smiles, and often, she looks her best. Smiles are the first thing I notice about a person, smiles and their laugh. A good sense of humor is necessary, so is liking Quidditch. Being a Quidditch fan wouldn’t be so bad either…
